My Favorite Things: Intro

Julie Andrews singing "My Favorite Things"

Ok, so I know I already posted about this, but I can't help it; I just can't get this song out of my head, especially when I find things that make me happy.  Does this ever happen to you?  Well in honor of this old time favorite song of mine, I decided to start a segment on this topic.  My favorite things will be a short and sweet segment, that will be regular, but a little less frequent than my normal posts.  Well, this week I want to share a song with you, but you have to read to the end to get it :-)

Obviously, my very favorite things aren't things at all, they're people. And it goes without saying that these people help me to feel happy, fulfilled and content with my life.

Nevertheless, I also am a very hands-on, visual person, who has the love language of gifts, which means I love to give and receive them.  I openly admit that there are THINGS that make me happy as well.   I hope you can relate, even a little :-)

The things that make me happy can differ as I'm sure they do for you too-from a website where I can learn new things for free to a favorite chocolate all the way to finding a hair dye that really works for me :-) They don't have to be huge things necessarily. I mean, I'm sure we would all be very happy with diamonds and new cars, but hopefully we can all find ways to be perfectly fine without them too.  We can try to enjoy & celebrate even the small things in life.

As I am learning to declare victory over my depression, I am finding it more important to think on my favorite things.  Maybe you will find this helpful as well.  I love this great reminder:

"Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse." Philippians 4:8 (Message)

One of my favorite movies growing up was Disney's version of Pollyanna.  I loved how she always saw the brighter side of things, and I love that she points out that there are over 800 verses in the Bible about being joyful, and why would God have emphasized it so much, if he didn't want us to be JOYFUL?  Makes sense to me :-)

Since I want to keep these Favorite Things posts short, I will stop here with my questions for you:

What made you happy this week?  What are your favorite things?

Let's do this together.  Here's what I am going to do, and I hope you will join me:

1) Start journaling my favorite things or things that made me happy throughout my week.

2) Then I am going to share with you.  It might be pictures, songs, products, books, etc.

I hope you will share with me as well :-)  And with that, I share with you a song that I am loving right now:  TTFN :-)
